RootsCamp? What is RootsCamp??
This year marks the 8th anniversary of Rootscamp "Unconference" where organizers set the agenda, share lessons learned and drive the conversation about best practices in organizing. RootsCamp is an open space "un-conference" with an agenda driven by the people who attend. Together, we'll share, debrief and celebrate the tremendous work organizers did in 2013, regardless of the outcome. It's also the place to start preparing for the work ahead of us in 2014 and beyond.
What is the Agenda?
There is no pre-set agenda. On the start of each day, we'll put up a big blank wall. On the left side will be time slots available and across the top there will be rooms. Attendees fill out cards and post the sessions they're interested in presenting. Before coming to RootsCamp, talk to friends about what you'd like to present and see if you can work together on something. Prior to the event, we'll host some online trainings on how to make your session as effective as possible!
Who do I present with? What's the format?
You can conduct a session alone, or with others. Formats may vary - presentations of case studies, discussions, Q&A's, demos or skill-share sessions, or a mix. The format is up to you, but we urge you to facilitate a session that is participatory and includes as many people in the room as possible. We discourage panels and dry, text-heavy powerpoints.
When and where do I post my awesome session?
All sessions are posted on "The Wall" that we just spoke about. Then that schedule will be communicated to attendees via screens throughout the convention center and our RootsCamp app which will be available on iPhone and Android devices. We also encourage you to create Twitter hashtags for your session and use social media to promote it!
